Introducing Admiral Chris Barrie AC, FAICD, FAIM, FARPI, RAN Retired, Adjunct Professor Strategic and Defence Studies Centre Australian National University, Canberra

After 42 years in the Royal Australian Navy, including four years as the Chief of the Defence Force, Admiral Barrie retired in 2002, and sought new challenges in academia. He has worked on strategic leadership issues as consultant, teacher and mentor at Oxford University, the National Defence University in Washington DC, and currently the ANU in Canberra.

Admiral Barrie became very concerned about climate change in 2006 and has since become a strong advocate, predicated on the costs of inaction. In 2015 he authored a report for the Climate Council on “Climate Change, Security and the ADF”, which preceded a conference on the topic co-chaired with Professor Will Steffen. Chris is also a member of the Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change.

Join us on 15 February for Chris’ strategic insights into the risks that climate change inaction poses to national security, and our other speakers Professor Will Steffen Emeritus Professor Fenner School of Environment & Society ANU, and Zara Bending, Associate, Centre for Environmental Law, Macquarie University.
